This webinar consists of a distinguished panel of experts discussing the state of the lodging industry, financing, and the transaction markets as at June 2021. The industry was emerging from the dramatic impact of the Covid pandemic with uncertainty over the trajectory of recovery.

Aly-Khan Merali

Aly-Khan Merali

As President and Managing Partner, Aly-khan Merali leads all aspects of Stonebridge Companies’ Hotel Operations, Accounting, Revenue Management, Human Resources, Risk Management, Information Technology and E-Commerce activities.

Aly-khan is also active with the AHLA Executive and Investment Committees, the Aloft, Homewood and Renaissance, and Le Meridien Ownership Councils, and the Urban Land Institute. In addition he is an active member of the Young President’s Organization and the Cornell Hotel Society.

Aly-khan was previously the President and Chief Financial Officer of Turnberry, a leading real estate development company that operates in the hospitality, commercial and residential markets.  In addition to his Corporate oversight responsibilities, he directed all retail and hospitality investment activities and development projects. To date, Mr. Merali has been involved in transactions on behalf of Turnberry that total in excess of $7 billion dollars.

Prior to joining Turnberry, Mr. Merali was Executive Vice President of Acquisitions and Capital Markets for the Gencom Group, a multi-billion dollar hospitality investment platform with interests in a variety of hotel and resort properties in the US, Europe, and the Caribbean.

Kevin Davis

Current Responsibilities

Kevin Davis is a Senior Managing Director in JLL’s Hotels & Hospitality Group and Head of Debt Capital Markets for Hotels in New York, where he is responsible for raising debt and equity capital for hotel owners, and is one of the leaders of the Hotel Investment Banking group. In this role, Mr. Davis works closely with the lending community, including banks, life insurance companies, debt funds, mezzanine providers and CMBS lenders, as well as institutional owners of commercial real estate.

Experience

Since joining JLL in 2013, Mr. Davis has been involved in almost $10 billion of financings which include ground-up construction projects, value-add/transitional assets and stabilized properties. Notable transactions include the financing of the JW Marriott Essex House, the Standard High Line, the One Hotel Central Park, Loews Regency San Francisco and the Ritz Carlton St. Thomas. Representative clients include ADIA, Ashford Hospitality, Barings, Blackstone Group, Highgate Hotels, Rockpoint Group, Starwood Capital and Walton Street Capital, among others.

Positions

Prior to joining Jones Lang LaSalle, Mr. Davis spent almost a decade as a lender at Merrill Lynch and UBS, where he was involved in sourcing and executing over $7 billion of first mortgage and mezzanine financings for securitization and balance sheet. In this role, Mr. Davis was actively involved in loan origination, loan structuring and closing. Mr. Davis also spent three years as a partner and co-founder of FundCore Finance, a high yield lending platform that made opportunistic investments following the financial crisis.  Previously, Mr. Davis worked as an attorney in Washington, D.C., where he covered banking and securities policy issues for members of the House and Senate Banking Committees.

Eric Gunderson

Based in Los Angeles, Eric Gunderson is a Managing Director in the Real Estate Capital Markets Group at Wells Fargo.  He leads a 15-person origination team that provides commercial real estate loans via two lending programs- CMBS and balance sheet.  His team originates these non-recourse loans on cash flowing properties of all types, including office, retail, industrial, hotel, multi-family, self-storage manufactured housing and specialty use asset.  With more than 20 years in the finance industry, Mr. Gunderson has experience in the sourcing, underwriting, structuring and funding of over $10 billion of commercial real estate loans.
